On January 26th, the Dickerson Park Zoo came to the Fair Grove elementary to put on an assembly for the third and fourth grade students. The zoo came to Fair Grove with different owls to show the students. The program, which is called “McZoo 2 You,” is put together by McDonald’s restaurants and the Dickerson Park Zoo. The Fair Grove PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) paid $75.00 for the assembly, which was a big help for the elementary school.

Mrs. Glenn, a third grade teacher, thought the assembly was very fun and said the kids enjoyed every second of it. “The representative from the Dickerson Park Zoo brought four owls for the kids to look at and enjoy. One owl was a barn owl, which are considered an endangered animal, so it was cool to see an owl in that condition,” said Glenn. “She brought the owls out of the case and showed everyone. She let the kids get right up close to the owls,” added Glenn. The owls that were shown made funny noises and different body gestures. The representative provided facts about every owl while she showed them. Mrs. Glenn also stated, “The representative gave the school 40 owl pellets for the children to dissect. The kids were eager to start learning about the pellets.” Glenn also says that the funniest part of the assembly was when one of the owls pooped and all of the children laughed.

Corben Blair, a third grade student in Mrs. Glenn’s class, had a lot of fun at the assembly. “The owls went berzerk. The barn turned it’s head all the way around and it was really cool,” said Blair. “All of the owls were big, but the barn owl was the biggest and coolest to look at.” Blair also states that his favorite part from the assembly was that the owls were from Dickerson Park Zoo and he’s been there before, so it was awesome to see the owls were from there.
