The Springfield press release states that Springfield police were called onto scene at the entrance to the Men’s Dillard’s at the Battlefield mall at 8:07pm. This event happened on Thursday, September 7th.

An argument had broken out between two men outside the Dillard’s store. Pretty soon the dispute escalated quickly and gunshots started firing off. No person was directly shot at, but a young woman was indirectly hurt with a grazing wound and just a few other minor injures. The girl was only 10 years old. Lisa Cox, Springfield police spokesperson, comments that, “An unoccupied vehicle parked at the nearby McDonald’s was also hit by a round.”

The police have already arrested one man who was said to have been running away from the mall at the time. Police are still searching and trying to figure out who the other man was that was involved in the shooting. The parking lot was searched for evidence of the case. A gun was recovered at the scene that is believed to be used in the shooting. It is unknown though if both men used a gun or if there was just one.

The Battlefield mall states, “The safety of our shoppers, employees and merchants are a top priority… This type of random act will not be tolerated on our property… Battlefield Mall is fully supporting (local authorities) efforts and needs in the investigation.” The mall was placed on lockdown during the time of this incident.

As of noon on Friday, September 8th another man was called into question and in custody. The police are looking for any eyewitnesses to the scene that night or if anyone knows of people involved with the investigation.
