Project Grad is a night of celebration hosted for seniors the night of graduation, and this year is hosted by a board of parents of the seniors.
Project grad is a program that is offered to high school students that allows them safety after their graduation, it is a non violent and supervised place to have fun.
Project grad hosts events that gather up and raise money for the celebration. They put on many events such as donkey basketball and they have some booths set up around the football games.
Holley Johnson stated, “This year we do have a board made up of myself ( Johnson), Amanda McMains, Kesha Ipock, Kasha Klindworth and Jamie Martin.”
“We don’t have a set date or time we have the meetings. The board members come up with a date that works for us,” stated Johnson. She also said, “No 1 person is in charge of project grad. It definitely takes a village to put this on.”
Each one of the seniors that are going to be graduating are invited to the night of the celebration put on by Project Grad. There is no sign up process or requirements that affect who gets to celebrate or not. If they are going to walk the stage and graduate then they are welcomed to come and join for the after party. Johnson stated, “We want to include every senior parent and senior that wants to help us out in all of our events!”
“At each meeting we discuss a variety of things. The first thing we talk about is how much money we have raised to date,” Johnson shared.
Project Grad is supposed to be one last night of fun before seniors are put under the pressures of starting their adulthood and jumping into life. Johnson exclaimed, “We want them to have one more night of hanging together before entering the real world!”
“Project Grad makes a difference by letting the seniors let loose for one more night together in a drug and alcohol free setting. We celebrate them with awesome prizes, games, food, and just hanging out!” Johnson said.
