The Fair Grove High School Choir is an extracurricular activity that involves singing or performing at various events all throughout the school year.
Just like other extracurricular activities, choir can help you learn valuable life lessons including teamwork, responsibility, and an element of competition.
According to Luke Engel (11), choir teaches you to learn to work in a group bigger than yourself and what you need to do to help this team.
Furthermore, Macy Ahnen (9) thinks that being in choir or any other extracurricular activity can help you stay out of trouble.
In addition, Addison Voorhis (9) thinks that participating in extracurriculars is a way to get to compete for the school and make you feel like you are helping the school advance in different ways.
“It’s important to be involved in something, because having people in your life from these extra-curriculars is amazing and having them makes high school so much more worthwhile,” added Maddox Dodd (10).
To many, Choir is a form of freedom and a way to let go of what they deal with during the school day. Dodd expressed, “Singing, to me, is one of the most freeing feelings and it’s a moment where I can push everything else away.”
“To prepare for events, like our concerts, we spend many hours in and out of school memorizing and perfecting these pieces that we put on for our community,” Dodd explained. “We have a choir class every school day during 3rd hour and that’s when most of our work is put into it.”
Dodd is passionate about Choir and always giving his all for his community. His favorite event that the choir does is Evening of Jazz.
Dodd’s favorite event that the choir performs in is the Evening of Jazz, a jazz concert put on by the Swinging Eagles and the choir. Dodd stated, “It’s an amazing time, we all put so much into this concert and we all try our absolute best to make the concert as amazing as it can be.” The concert has been a successful hit over the years, playing many popular songs for the audience to enjoy.
Voorhis and Ahnen are most excited for Music in the Parks at Silver Dollar City. “We get to sing one day then go hang around silver dollar city the next day with the whole choir,” said Voorhis.
Choir practices daily during the 3rd hour to prepare for vocal concerts and competitions throughout the year. “Choir is like a home away from home and I love it,” added Dodd.
