Sing-O, a combination of music and bingo, was a fundraising event hosted by the Fair Grove Project Graduation committee on April 6th in the Fair Grove Elementary School cafeteria.
During the musical bingo game, a DJ plays a variety of different music genres that include; country, rock, and 80’s songs. Each person playing Sing-O has an individual bingo board and when the DJ plays a song that is on the card, people mark off their squares until they get a bingo.
Players participate in numerous rounds of the game. In some rounds, the DJ mixes it up by requiring different patterns to achieve a bingo, not just the typical five squares in a row.
Sing-O is one of many fundraisers for Project Graduation. All the money from this event, as well as others throughout the school year, help pay for the celebration hosted on graduation night for seniors.
Project Graduation parent volunteer, Jennifer Harp explained, “The money raised goes toward the facility where Project Graduation will be held, food, activities and prizes for the seniors.”
Project Graduation is an all night event that was created to promote a way that seniors can still celebrate graduating, but in a safe and supervised way. This event is run by parents of the Fair Grove High School seniors. Parent volunteers say the purpose of the event is to create an environment that fosters interaction in a way that is enjoyable for the seniors.
“Project Grad is also just a fun culminating event for students their senior year. It’s a way to spend time with their senior friends, make memories, while also making a conscious decision to enjoy their graduation night without alcohol or other drugs,” Kelly Sutherland, Project Graduation parent volunteer said.
Though parents lead the fundraising events, seniors also get involved. Students have the opportunity to volunteer at the different events to help raise money for their fun post-graduation celebration. The students who volunteer at Project Graduation fundraisers earn tickets to win prizes the night of Project Graduation.
Parents and students work together to plan the events. “All seniors and senior parents are encouraged and welcome to attend the monthly Project Grad meetings to help organize and participate in the fundraising events,” Sutherland said.
Some other Project Graduation fundraising events include online raffle events, split the pot opportunities, parking cars at the Heritage Festival, donkey basketball, duck toss at basketball games, and serving sundaes during lunch to high school students.
