With Fair Grove High School’s Track and Field season finishing strong, the seniors are finishing their last lap as a record breaking team.
Taylor Green (12), a senior and SBU commit for track and field, summarized her season by saying, “The most important thing that I will miss is definitely the culture Coach Zanzie and Coach Martin have built around track. There is no other sport that has the same culture as track does.”
Green also explained her highlighted memories of the season, “My favorite meet would have to be either Girls Night Out or the SBU Meet because the level of competition is so high.”
On April 23rd, at the annual High School SBU Track Meet, Fair Grove’s track stars excelled. Fair Grove girls 4×2, consisting of Savannah Ipock (12), Brooke Daniels (11), Sage Crowley (9), and Willow Buescher (10), shattered the school record with a time of 1:47:10. Along with the Fair Grove boys 4×1, consisting of Kellen Lair (11), Adrick Wilson (10), Canyon Crowley (11), and Liam Draper (12) also breaking the school record with a time of 43.59 seconds. Each team consisted of a senior, leading the track team to recording breaking titles.
Savannah Ipock (12) had a junior year break during track, but came back her senior year victoriously by breaking records and helping her team grow. “The difference about track my senior year has been the sense of peace I feel in the season. Track is one of the most anxiety-inducing sports, but I have been able to feel more of a peace about it this season knowing it’s my last one and I want to make the most of it.”
Ipock continued, “There are two things I will miss about track, the competitiveness and the community. I don’t think there is a team that laughs as much as Fair Grove Girls Track. I will miss the competitiveness because we have an amazing group of girls that have worked extremely hard to allow us to break records and become all-state track athletes.”
As of April, the 4×2 girls are top three in the state of Missouri. The Fair Grove Track and Field seniors are running to the finish off their high school career, but also running along with their fellow teammates, who will carry on the Track and Field culture that the seniors will leave behind.
