The Fair Grove Junior Varsity Track team has been working hard alongside the varsity team. The JV track team has been practicing to work toward the goal of state.

Michael Zanzie is one of the coaches for the Fair Grove track team. With the season of 2023-2024 coming to an end they have had some goals for this year. Zanzie stated, “Team goals would be to win the conference meet.”

To reach this goal, track practices Monday through Friday until 5:30. This is to prepare themselves for the upcoming meets.

For the outlook on practices Zanzie stated, “We have pre-practice meetings and logistics, whole team warmup, event specific workout groups. This being (Throwers, sprinters/jumpers, distance.)”

Being on the JV track team some kids have something that motivates them to do better for themselves, and their team. Skylar Farthing (9) said, “My biggest motivation is to be better for myself.”

Farthing goes on to say, “When you are in an event you are representing yourself as well as your team, so I push myself harder because of that.”

Motivation also comes with goals as Farthing states, “My goal is to keep trying, because it can be hard on your body. You won’t always do as good as you have before, so I just keep trying so I know that I’ve done everything I could.”

Keeping motivated is a big thing, as is enjoying your sport. When students have enjoyment in their sport they are more likely to invest more effort into their sport; enjoyment fuels motivation.

Farthing stated, “My favorite part about track is that you can try different things and find what is best for you. I also like the environment, and the obstacles that you have to go through and overcome.”

She also talks about her time in track and field, and why she continues to do it. Farthing said, “I have always done track and field since middle school, so I decided I wanted to carry on into high school. I also wanted to experience the friendships that came with it.”

The varsity girls track team won districts on Saturday May 4th, along with the MLC boys and girls championship. With these accomplishments they have set the record at the SBU meet. The boys 4×1 broke the record with the time of 43.59.

The JV track team has practiced through this whole season and is making their way to the end with many accomplishments.
