The Fair Grove girls soccer season is coming to an end with the team having played almost all their normal season games and districts in the near future
The soccer girls have worked hard since their winter off season to grow their skills and create one of their best years as a team with the help of their Head Coach Christopher Haviland and their new Assistant Coach Kezia Price. Price said, “This season is definitely a season of growth. This year, we have won more games than they have in the past three years combined…and we are really proud of that.”
Cheyenne Miller (12), one of the team captains, added, “Our team has also made lots of improvements throughout the season and our games have been much closer in score compared to previous years.”
Though the team has had more wins this season than in years past, progress does not come without tribulations to overcome. Carlie Krider (9) pointed out, “We sometimes struggle with being aggressive at the beginning of the game. We tend to also clump up and that makes it hard to move the ball around.”
She added, “However, our team always overcomes our issues and works hard to make sure they happen less in the future.”
One of the matches that stood out as a testament to their abilities of overcoming obstacles was their game against Monett in the Willard tournament. Price stated, “Everyone was drenched and cold after losing our first game. We went back out for our second game against Monett and the energy was totally different.”
She continued, “The girls were laughing and having fun warming up in the rain. Normally, when the girls aren’t taking games seriously, it’s frustrating. However, it was one of those moments where you just had to smile because the girls didn’t care that it was pouring rain and they were just there for the love of the game and making the best out of a not ideal situation.”
Overall the team’s opinion of the season so far was positive, and they have some expectations for how the rest of the season should go. Miller said, “I expect our team to get a few more wins before the end of season and to hopefully make it a couple rounds into districts. We will not have three of our starters for districts so I expect we will have few JV players ready to step up and prove themselves for next year.”
The Girls Soccer Team has a few more games left in the main season, those being May 11th, at Marshfield and May 12th against New Heights Christian with McAuley Catholic. After those games Districts will begin on May 18th.
