Fair Grove Middle School Baseball continues their 2025-2026 season with a strong record of 11-4 and are preparing for the upcoming Mid-lakes Conference tournament.
Trey Hagard is the middle school baseball coach and has been coaching a total of four years. He spent three years coaching at Kickapoo and is now coaching here at Fair Grove. Hagard shared that the players have grown throughout the season, “The boys have gained a lot of confidence and gained a lot as players and people!”
Hagard explained the outlook for the rest of the season, “Looking forward we plan to repeat the success we’ve had by continuing the intensity in practice and keeping our focus one game at a time.”
Hagard stated that his players show a competitive edge and that they are the epitome for the middle and high school levels.
He stated, “At this level, it’s not just about wins and losses it’s about teaching the game the right way, building confidence, and helping them understand what it means to be part of a team.”
He added, “They trust one another, leave it all out on the field and most importantly don’t back down from a challenge.”
Hagard stated that his favorite part about coaching this season is watching each and everyone of his players growing on and off the field. He has enjoyed seeing the team’s small improvements, such as certain players making solid contact with the ball, understanding a defensive situation, or encouraging a teammate.
Hagard explained that as a coach it is important to make the game fun for his players, “It’s also rewarding to bring energy and intensity to practice while making sure the kids are having fun and staying engaged.”
He added, “Being able to impact their mindset, teach them to “work where their feet are,” and help shape their love for the game is what makes coaching at this level so meaningful to me.”
The biggest struggle Haggard shared was learning the names of his players in a short period of time since there is only one of him and 18 players. He did manage to figure out everyone’s names after the third week.
Hagard shared his gratitude toward this team, “This is a great group of guys and I have had a blast getting to coach them! Looking forward to the rest of the season with them! So thankful for this opportunity.”
The middle school baseball team will compete on May 2nd through the 6th, in the Mid-Lakes Conference tournament.
