Fair Grove students competed at two math competitions in the month of April. The competitions gave students the opportunity to show their skills and compete against other schools.
At math competitions students compete in different math subjects such as, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. The school selected some of their strongest students from classes to compete.
There were two math competitions Fair Grove competed in. They competed on April 8, 2026, at the Mid-Lakes Conference (MLC) competition, located in Strafford, and the Pummill Relays at Missouri State University (MSU), on April 15,2026.
The results from the MLC math competition were, Geometry team (1st), Algebra I team (3rd), Algebra II team (3rd), and open team (3rd). Individual results include, Algebra I, Addy Miller (3rd) and Open, Carson Trussell (2nd).
The results of the Pummill relays held at MSU were, Algebra one (1st), Algebra two (1st), Geometry (1st), and fourth year math team (2nd).
At competitions, there are individual competitors and teams competing. Susanne Feldman, a Fair Grove High school math teacher, explained, “MLC has an option for 3 individuals and a team of 3 for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra ll.” She then added that Pummill Math Relays have a wider variety of events, giving students multiple ways to compete.
These competitions are about more than just winning. Feldman stated, “Math competitions are a great opportunity for students to put their hard work to the test against peers in the same course. We have so many amazing students, and it’s fun to see them rise to the occasion and put what they’ve learned and apply it to a challenging situation.” Michael Van Cleave added, “Math contests are a way for students to compete academically in a fun setting.”
Math competitions build confidence and help students push themselves. Competing against students from other schools helps students improve problem-solving skills. It also gives them a chance to work with other students during the events.
The math competitions from this year ended with four first place finishers. All of the students prepared for these competitions by putting lots of time and effort.
