After five years as the middle school secretary, Tina Cantwell is leaving behind a lasting impact on the school community that many students and staff members will never forget.
Before working at the middle school, Cantwell served 13 years in the United States Army. She specialized in chemical, biological, nuclear, and radiological warfare. Seven of those years were spent as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, and she also worked as a drill sergeant and instructor at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Despite her military background, students and staff say her caring personality is what made her stand out the most. Middle School Assistant Principal Dr. Samantha Orr stated, “Her willingness to help anyone who walks through the door makes a lasting impression on students, staff, and guardians alike.” Orr continued, “She brings a sense of calm and reliability, and people know they can count on her to listen, support, and guide them in a positive direction.”
Cantwell is known for her kindness, humor and ability to help anyone who walks through the office doors. She has truly become one of the most recognizable and appreciated faces at Fair Grove Middle School.
Cantwell is a person students know they can always count on. Whether offering a snack, a hug, or simply a smile during a difficult day, Cantwell has become much more than a secretary to the middle school that will be dearly missed.
Students have also formed close relationships with Cantwell over the years. Alexis Lepold (10) stated, “Tina is one of the most fun and understanding people I know. Over the last few years, she has become more of an aunt to me than a secretary.”
Many students will remember the comfort Cantwell brought to the office each day, whether it be through conversations, encouragement, or her famous candy drawer. Cantwell expressed, “I hope our students will remember that a well-stocked candy drawer can provide an abundant amount of temporary happiness.”
As Cantwell moves on from middle school, students, guardians and staff will continue to remember the kindness, laughter, and support she brought into the school every day. While her role in the office may be ending, the impact she made on the Fair Grove district will hold a lasting memory forever.
