Prom is right around the corner and many students at Fair Grove High School are already in the midst of preparing for the dance in many different ways.
Stephanie Raper (12) explained, “For preparation for prom, I have been looking and saving hairstyles to do. I have also found my prom dress; the process of finding it was very easy. It was actually the first dress I tried on!”
Desiree Pollock (12) also found a dress, “So far I have just ordered my dress and accessories, so I am not rushing to find things at the last minute…I have had this dress in mind from last year, so it wasn’t a huge process to find one.”
Even though preparations typically begin beforehand, the actual day of the dance can be busy for anyone attending. Raper explained, “I usually start getting ready for prom around 12. I start that early because I like to have time to take my time. With the amount of hair I have, it takes a while to style it, and I also just don’t like to rush my makeup.”
Giulianna Kandlbinder (12) explained, “I usually start getting ready about 3 hours before I have to leave, to give me enough time to do hair makeup and mess ups if I do.” She continued, “What goes into getting ready for prom for me is a shower because no one wants to be stinky, hair, then makeup, then outfit.”
Pollock doesn’t get ready as early, “I don’t normally get up early when I have to get ready for dances. I pick out how I want to do my makeup and hair the week before so I am prepared on what I want to do the day of getting ready. I also practice the hairstyle I want to do the week before so I can have an idea on how to do it when it comes down to it.”
She continued, “I do think getting ready is the best part about the day rather than the dance. Along with getting dinner with friends and taking pictures, so we can have memories of that day.”
Raper shared the same opinion. She stated, “My favorite thing about prom is getting ready with my friends, taking pictures, and going to eat. The dance is fun, but I always have loved the before part the most.” She continued, “It’s so fun to get glammed up and go take pictures. The dance is very fun, but at the same time you can get easily bored or be ready to go if the vibe isn’t right at the dance.”
“This years’ prom is the last high school dance for seniors at Fair Grove,” Kandlbinder expressed, “It feels kind of bitter sweet; it’s good because it has been an experience the last 3 years going to Prom. But sad that it’s my last one.”
Pollock feels similarly, “It feels unreal that it is already senior prom, and I hope it is the best one out of the three that I’ve been to.”
Raper also explained, “It feels really good to be going into my senior prom, I am soaking up every detail of it and going to make it a prom to remember.”
After all the preparation, Prom will be held on May 2nd at 7pm at the DoubleTree Hotel in Springfield.
