Fair Grove Middle School Student Council (STUCO) hosted the Valentine’s dance on February 13, 2026. Seventh and eighth grade students had the chance to dress up, hang out with friends, eat snacks, and party on the dance floor.
Karis Peck (8), Addison Miller (8), and Alexis Steele (8), are members of the middle school student council. The student council is in charge of planning where and when the best time to host the dance is. They landed on February 13, 2026, as the perfect date due to it being the day before Valentine’s Day, and the middle school commons for where to host the dance. This also helped them choose the theme of Valentine’s Day. According to Peck (8), it was a simple theme to follow and had cute decorations.
Peck stated, “There is a big difference between being in student council and just attending the dance. You have to bring all of your things to school that morning, set up for the dance, get yourself ready, and then make sure others enjoy the dance.” This is one big night for STUCO, and they were very successful.
Being involved in student council can be stressful and overwhelming. They are in charge of planning the whole event, and make sure everyone enjoys the dance. The student council stays after school the day of the dance to decorate the middle school commons. Peck explained it can be difficult setting up after school because they don’t have as much time to get ready themselves. She said it still was fun getting ready with all of her STUCO friends.
Miller explained her favorite part of the dance is watching others enjoy something she helped make happen. The middle school dance is held to give students an opportunity to dress up and enjoy dancing and singing with their friends. They are provided with snacks, drinks, and a fun playlist provided by Lindsay Martin, middle school student council sponsor and science teacher. Peck, Steele, and other student council members created a backdrop to take cute photos.
Steele shared, “We host the dance to give kids opportunities to socialize after school, and have fun with friends!” Most students enjoyed seeing their friends, and being given the opportunity to dance and sing with no stress of school and grades.
Steele stated, “I love being in student council, and I love Ms. Martin!”
