Fair Grove Middle School Softball will begin the upcoming season under new leadership as Kelli Buffington steps into the role of head coach. Alongside assistant coach Lorin Carrier, Buffington plans to focus on player development, fundamentals and preparing athletes for future competition.
Buffington shared one of her biggest goals is seeing growth throughout the season, especially with several players who are still learning the sport. She explained that many athletes are new to softball, making improvement a key focus. “We have many girls that are new to the sport so I expect to see them grow in all aspects of the game.”
Carrier shared that she is looking forward to working with Buffington and contributing to the program. “I’m really excited to work alongside Coach Buffington and learn from her extensive experience in coaching softball,” Carrier said. She added that Buffington’s leadership has already influenced offseason practices and helped guide players as they build their skills.
Both coaches expect steady improvement as the season progresses. Buffington believes the team will continue to gain confidence through practice and competition. Carrier highlighted the players dedication during offseason training. “Because of their commitment and attitude, I’m optimistic that we’ll make significant strides this eason and see a lot of growth both individually and as a team,” she said.
The coaching staff has been using the offseason to strengthen fundamentals and introduce athletes to multiple positions. Buffington explained that the team meets weekly after school to work on drills and skill development before players settle into specific roles. Pitchers and catchers also attend additional sessions to build strength and improve technique.
Buffington said her passion for coaching comes from helping athletes grow. “I enjoy teaching the game and sharing my knowledge in hopes to create well-rounded athletes,” she said.
As the season approaches, the coaching staff remains focused on development, teamwork, and preparing Fair Grove’s Middle School Softball players for continued growth.
