Fair Grove High Schools’ baseball team officially began their 2026 season with a jamboree on March 13, 2026 at Marshfield High School. They’re current record is 11-1 and they have officially clinched the conference championship with a win against Reeds Spring on April 14.
The team consists of twenty players, each playing a different position and role to support the team.
Macklen Johnson (12) has played all four years of high school and began in middle school. He explained his favorite part of the team’s dynamic, “We are a very close team. Everybody seems to know everybody, and everyone likes everyone. No one has any problems with each other, and we all get along pretty well.”
Aedan Goins (12) started playing as a sophomore and has played for three years. He said, “Our guys are very different, but they work together well…We have a variety of different playing styles, swings and all kinds of other things, but when we put them together it’s electric.” He continued, “The team is also very good at problem solving and I believe that we will be good this year at overcoming hardships.”
The team worked together, as well as individually, to prepare for the season. Johnson said, “To prepare for the upcoming season, we usually have some offseason practice where we try to find anywhere we can to play catch and get our arms warmed up for the season ahead. We also try to hit as much as possible so that when the season comes around, we can get started right out the gun with producing quality runs.”
He continued, “Personally, I hit in my free time, and every week, I have a scheduled bullpen that I throw with Scott Geitz. These bullpens are to get me back into the swing of things and get the fundamentals back in my mind of how to throw a baseball with control from the mound.”
Goins stated, “We make sure to warm up before games and practice by stretching and playing catch beforehand. In our practices we do a lot of fundamental things such as run-downs, pick offs, etc. Personally I train really hard in the weight room before and during the season. I also work on my mobility outside of practices.”
Goins also explained how he is very confident in this baseball season, and that he believes in their ability to go far this year. He stated, “I think that our team is very versatile and we have a lot of options across the board giving us an advantage on our opponents.”
Johnson had a similar view, “I have a lot of confidence with our team this upcoming season. A lot of younger guys will have to step into some big spots, but I think we have the caliber of players to make that happen and make another long postseason run like we did last year.”
Fair Grove baseball will continue their season at Logan Rogersville on April 18th.
