The Fair Grove girls track team took on some tough competition at the Girls Night Out meet. This meet took place at Parkview High School on April 9, 2026. While the competition was strong these girls showed growth, effort, and positivity.
Katrina Cantwell (11) shared that her season has been going well so far, especially with hitting a personal record in the 800. This showed the hard work these girls have put in at practice.
After trying her hardest and competing against several state caliber athletes, Cantwell placed seventh in the 3200 meter run. While it was not the top three, this meet had several state level athletes, making this meet competitive. When it comes to preparing herself mentally or physically for races, Cantwell keeps it simple. “I stretch but before then I just go out and do my business,” she said.
Another Fair Grove runner, Willow Buescher (12), also talked about her track season so far. “My track season has been going well so far. I’ve been improving and continuing to work on getting faster.” At the Girls Night Out meet, Buescher competed in the 4×200 relay and the 400 meter dash. Even though she didn’t place in the top three, she still saw it as a good experience. “The competition was very strong and included a lot of state level runners,” she said.
Before meets, Buescher makes sure she’s both physically and mentally ready. “Before every running event, I make sure to warm up properly and get mentally focused,” she said. This shows that being mentally prepared keeps athletes stay locked in during big meets.
For both runners, track is more than just running for them. Cantwell said that her favorite part is “cheering people on and going to dinner after meets, and walking around with my coaches,” while Buescher said, “My favorite part of track is getting to compete and making memories with my teammates.” The Fair Grove girls track team showed positivity, effort, and growth so far this track season.
