The Fair Grove High School’s senior cheerleaders are all committed to colleges to continue their cheerleading journey. Reese Wells (12), Nevaeh Lehey (12) and Brooklyn Mauldin (12) are the three seniors on the Fair Grove High School cheerleading team.
Wells is one of the captains for the Fair Grove High School 2024-2025 cheerleading team. She has been captain for the past two years and cheered for six. Wells is committed to Missouri State University for Stunt. Wells shared, “I picked my college based on my admiration of the team and coach of the MSU Stunt team.”
Lahey is another one of the captains for the Fair Grove High School 2024-2025 cheerleading team. She has been cheering for the past six years, and has had college offers from several universities for Stunt, but has committed to Missouri State University. Lehey stated, “I chose MSU because I will be living at home to save money and MSU had the best animal science program.”
Mauldin is the third senior who has committed to a college to continue her career in cheerleading. She has been cheering for four years, and has committed to Drury University for Stunt. Mauldin shared, “I looked into all the programs for nursing, and chose off of that and the best scholarships that were available.”
Two years ago, the Fair Grove Cheer Team started competitively cheering. In their first year of competition, (2023), the girls were able to advance to regional, although many of the cheerleaders had never competed before. This year, the girls won third in State for competitive cheerleading. Mauldin expressed, “I was so proud of my team and how far we have come for only competing for the past two years.”
High school cheerleading is active for most of the year, practicing for most of the summer and after school and performing for mostly football, and boys and girls basketball games. This makes many of the cheerleaders form a bond that is unforgettable. The girls expressed how they will miss cheering with their best friends when they go on to cheer for their chosen colleges. Lahey stated, “I have made my best friends through cheer. I am excited to continue my journey with cheer, but I will miss cheering with my best friends.”
The cheerleaders are known to create culture for the school, and long lasting memories for each other. Well’s shared, “My favorite memory from this season is hitting zero at the state girl’s basketball game with my friends. I felt like I was closing my last high school game on a good note.”
Wells, Lahey, and Mauldin will be signing with their colleges alongside the rest of the committed Fair Grove senior athletes on April 16, 2025.
