Every year the Parents and Teachers Organization (PTO) puts on a holiday shop for the elementary students so they can get presents for their families.
Pebble Dolan, the president of PTO, stated that the purpose of the holiday shop is to let the students experience the gift of giving. She continued to say that a lot of students have no other opportunities to shop for their families so holiday shop allows them to see how amazing it is to give to others.
PTO enjoys running holiday shop every year. Dolan explained, “We love holiday shop! It’s my favorite event of the year that happens in FG. So heartwarming seeing the kids shop for their families. My favorite part is that everyone gets to participate and shop. Even the kiddos that don’t bring money.”
Julie Hampton, the elementary librarian, stated that PTO decided to host the holiday shop this year in the library because it’s a large space for everything to be spread out, while also being able to close down easily when not using the room.
Preparing for holiday shop can take time and effort. Dolan stated that they shop all year long to get fully prepared for it. She added that they spent hours at the school organizing and pricing the gifts.
Students have fun while shopping for the holidays. Dolan stated that students love the holiday shop. She added that she loves watching the students come into the holiday shop super excited to buy gifts for their families.
The workers at the holiday shop also have their own favorite memories of the event every year. Dolan stated that her favorite memory is the joy on children’s faces after they shopped and got their gifts wrapped for their families.
