Music is a form of art that brings people together. At Fair Grove High School, several people enjoy different forms of music.
Band director Natalie Palomo explained that her favorite era of music was early to mid 2000’s. Palomo added, “…that was when I was growing up and in school.” Palomo said her favorite artists from this time are Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Hillary Duff, and Britney Spears. She argued “Baby” by Justin Bieber, “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, and “Oops I Did it Again” by Britney Spears are the best songs from this generation.
Waylon Wright (12) stated, “I think the 1970s brought a new age of variety of music, with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the emergence of heavy metal and hip hop in the late 70s, while still holding onto some disco themes from the 60s.” He continued, the best bands of all time are Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
Wright explained the genres he likes from this frame of time are Yacht Rock, Prong Rock, Heavy Metal, Soul, and R&B. Wright added, “The 90s were also great years for music with the emergence of grunge and punk rock, speaking out against the system and speaking out about addiction and personal issues with bands such as Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and many more.”
English teacher Bailey Weaver loves music from the 70’s. Weaver states she’s a Soul, Motown, and Classic Rock kind of person. Some of her favorite artists and bands from this era are Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Al Green, Sly and the Family Stone, The Temptations, Patti LaBelle, and Aretha Franklin. Weaver said, “My students like to coin my vibe as ‘coastal grandmother’ so I think my love of older music fits in this title!”
History teacher Amy Johnson enjoys a large variety of music. Johnson loves 50’s Doo Wop, 90’s Country, 80’s Hair Bands, and contemporary jazz bands. Johnson stated, “I love listening to music and I listen to so many different types of music and genres. It depends on the season, the type of day I’m having or if I haven’t listened in a while.”
Sam Moore (12) stated, “I think that the music from the 90s was some of the best.” His favorite artists are George Strait and Johnny Cash. His favorite genres of music from this era are rock and roll, country, and jazz. His favorite song is “Burning Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash.
There are many different forms of music, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. The people at the Fair Grove school district have very diverse music tastes.
