Friday, September 16th, Fair Grove Elementary School held their Grandparent’s Day celebration. Each year on Grandparent’s Day, the grandparents of all students from kindergarten to 4th grade are invited to come to school and spend a day with their grandchildren. Each grade has a short performance for their grandparents that is composed of songs and speaking parts. Beginning at 9 AM, Kindergarten- 2nd grade students put on their performance and then there was a break before the 3rd and 4th graders performed at noon. During the break, students have the opportunity to show their grandparents around school, introduce them to their teachers, and even show they what they do inside the classroom. Also while the grandparents are at school, they can take the students to visit the book fair and even take a picture with them. This year water bottles were also available for purchase.

Brooke Daniels, a 4th grade student at Fair Grove Elementary, explained, “We practiced our speaking parts a lot to be ready to perform.” Another way the 4th grade class prepared for their grandparents to come into the classroom was as Brooke notes , “Mrs. Francis gave us a paper with our names on it to put over our book nooks to show our grandparents which one is ours.” Brooke adds, “It was fun to meet my friends grandparent’s because they were all really nice, but my favorite part was getting to show mine around.”

Of the 6 grandparents that came to support Brooke on Grandparent’s Day is Alice Daniels, who has attended multiple Grandparent’s Day celebrations at Fair Grove between Brooke and her older brother Logan Daniels (7th).  Alice notes, “Getting to spend time with Brooke, meeting her teacher, and watching her sing were the highlights of my day.”

Grandparent’s Day is an annual occurrence at Fair Grove Elementary and students are encouraged to welcome their grandparents into the school each year they are in elementary school.
