The Fair Grove academic awards night was on May 8th. This event is a night where students are recognized and awarded for achievements they have made during the school year.

Every year towards the end of the school year, Fair Grove High School holds an academic awards night to congratulate students on all of the hard work they have put in as students throughout the past year.

At the awards night, teachers give out an award to one student for each of the classes they teach. These awards are usually given to the students who either scored the highest grades in the class, or who were especially hard working and academically successful. These awards are a high honor and teachers are able to recognize the effort that students put into their education.

Hailey Merillat (12) is one of the seniors who is graduating with the highest honors. She has been one of the top students at Fair Grove for years and has put in the work necessary to achieve such a feat. Merillat stated, “I have always been quite dedicated when it comes to my classes and have been taking some of the hardest classes offered at the school in order to prepare myself for college and get ahead.”

Teachers also came together with other teachers in the same department to give out an overall department award. These awards were given to students who, throughout all of their years at Fair Grove High School, excelled in specific subjects such as mathematics, history, and english classes.

Not only is this a night for handing out classroom awards, but it was also a night where Fair Grove seniors find out if they have received scholarships from local businesses across Fair Grove. There are over ten local scholarships that were handed out to seniors that competed for them.

One of the scholarship recipients was Seth Hardison (12). Hardison is the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship that is valued at $1,000. Not only this but he is also graduating on May 16th with a 4.15 grade point average (GPA) and as one of the top ranked students in his class. Hardison explained, “School has always been my top priority and to see my hard work has finally paid off with this scholarship feels amazing.”

Seniors did not only obtain scholarships at the academic awards night, but certain seniors who excelled in school received their graduation honor chords. At Fair Grove High School, students are able to achieve honors based through the Latin Honor System. This system provides students with three tiers of excellence based on their performance throughout the entirety of high school.

The Cum Laude honor was awarded to students who completed high school with a 4.0 GPA and were involved in one or more extracurricular activities. Fair Grove students that received this honor are Luke Buescher (12), and Allison Findley (12).

The Magna Cum Laude honor was awarded to students who finished high school with a 4.1 GPA and were involved in two or more extracurricular activities. Fair Grove students that received this honor are Charlie Harp (12), Savannah Ipock (12), Reagan Johnson (12), and Evyn Jones (12).

The Summa Cum Laude honor was awarded to students who finished high school with a 4.15 GPA or higher and were involved in two or more extracurricular activities. Fair Grove students that received this highest honor are Camille Boyer (12), Seth Hardison (12), Brandon Kandlbinder (12), Faith Klindworth (12), Piper Logan (12), Hailey Merillat (12), Oakland Wayne Morrison (12), Ayden Teaster (12), and Isaac Walters (12).
