The Jazz Combo recently took a trip on March 9th-10th to Kansas City where they had the opportunity to watch the KC Jazz Orchestra perform in concert.

The Jazz Combo is sponsored by Fair Grove Band Director and middle school teacher, Natalie Palomo.

The KC Jazz trip is a chance for all the students involved in Jazz Combo to be able to go and see a real professional performance and to take notes and to gather information. It will also help improve their skills in the future as well.

Collin Emery (11) explained, “Watching a professional band perform is very informative and a great learning experience for how we should do our own preferences.”

Although the Jazz Combo didn’t perform on this trip, it was an educational experience to gain knowledge on a professional jazz performance.

Emery said, “It’s a really fun trip and watching the pros perform really makes me want to play some jazz too.”

Along with the performance the jazz group was able to do other activities due to fundraising. Palomo furthermore explained, “… thanks to fundraising, we were able to do the concert, dinner, and a “fun” event for about $45. They’re usually pretty hyped about it without me needing to do much.”

Palomo stated, “Last year was the first year we went, and their faces when the band started playing, in a nice concert hall, were unreal. They seemed totally into the crazy performance, and they’re excited to go again (or for the first time).”

The Jazz Combo group recently completed their 2nd annual Kansas City Jazz trip on March 9th through the 10th.
