Finnegan Harp is a junior at Fair Grove High School who’s involved in multiple activities at Fair Grove including, Soccer, Basketball, and NHS (National Honor Society). Through these activities Harp shows his leadership skills throughout the community.
This summer, Harp will attend Boys State, a leadership camp where students learn how different government events work. He explained, “I am attending Boys State, which is a week-long camp and it’s pretty much a mock election where you participate in the different roles of an election.”
Harp is also very involved in sports. Fair Grove High School Boys Basketball Coach Bryan Tucker mentioned, “Finn is a tremendous defensive player and rebounder. He was injured and did not play for two games this season, and we did not look the same defensively.”
Tucker explained Harp’s leadership on the court, “Finn is a great teammate. He does a lot of dirty work – taking charges, getting rebounds, loves to pass to his teammates, and constantly talks on defense.”
Soccer has been a fun and memorable experience for Harp, especially because of the friendships he has built through the sport. Harp described, “ I loved playing soccer with my friends. They made the season really enjoyable. Our faraway games were fun and gave us time to bond on the bus.”
He added, “My favorite thing about basketball is playing with Grant and Jacob. They are two of my closest friends, and we had a lot of fun. The coaches are always making sure it’s a good environment to be in. We’ve had ups and downs, but I think this group is special.”
Outside of sports, Harp is also involved in National Honor Society. NHS gives students the opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community. He said, “I think if people get the chance to join NHS, they should because you get the chance to go on all kinds of different trips and volunteer for things you wouldn’t normally think to volunteer for.”
Through his involvement in a multitude of activities and opportunities, Harp continues to make the most of his high school experience. With boys’ state coming up this summer, he will have the opportunity to grow as a leader while representing Fair Grove High School.
