On May 16, Kindergarten Graduation was held in the upper elementary gym. Kindergarteners performed songs and then they were handed their kindergarten diplomas by elementary principal, Charity Hollan.
Kindergarten graduation is a big deal to the students, parents and even the teachers. This will be their one and only graduation before they walk the stage as a senior.
Michelle Graves, a kindergarten teacher here at Fair Grove, stated, “Since I was in school, kindergarten graduation has been seen as an important milestone for students and families. It indicates that these students are well on their way, after a successful first year in school!”
Graves later said, “I know the students feel proud of the work they have put in for the performance as well as during the year. Moving on to first grade is a big deal to them!”
Kindergarten teacher here at Fair Grove, Shelby Lucas, stated, “Kindergarten graduation is such a special moment in the life of these kids. Our Kindergarten students work so hard and grow tremendously throughout the year. Graduation helps celebrate the transition as they continue their educational journey.”
The Kindergarteners performed 8 different songs during their performance. The kindergarteners also had speaking parts as well. The songs they performed were This is Graduation Day, I Know My Alphabet Backwards & Forwards, Crawdad Song, Kindergarten Smile, Monkey & Alligator Song, Rise & Shine, Thankful for the USA, and Movin’ On to 1st Grade.
Kindergarten graduation can be a bittersweet moment for everyone and especially the teachers who had these kindergarteners all year in their classrooms. “I am ecstatic for my class to graduate from kindergarten. They have worked so hard this year,” Lucas stated.
Lucas continued, “A lot of my students came in only knowing some letters and/or letter sounds and by the end most students are reading fluently. They learn so much about numbers, science, and our world. My students can do so many things that they thought were so hard at the beginning of the school year. I am excited to see what they will achieve in first grade!”
Graves stated, “Every year I am sad to see my students go, but I’m always excited for my new group of kindergarteners coming in August!”
