The Fair Grove High School Theater Department is working on their next production Alice in Wonderland, with showtimes scheduled to occur November seventh, eighth and ninth.
Anna Moffis (12), playing the role of Gryphon and Cheshire Cat, stated her excitement for the upcoming show, “I am really looking forward to this show!” She elaborated, “I’m really looking forward to seeing everything come together, everyone has been working so hard and I’m excited to show everyone!”
Moffis commented on her prior play experience, explaining that being in so many prior plays has built up good relationships with the other actors, allowing her to work well with everyone in all of her scenes.
Leroy Barker, the Fair Grove Theater, Speech and Debate, Stagecraft, and Middle School Theater Teacher is the teacher sponsor behind the theater department. Barker holds auditions to make sure that the actors are going to be a good fit for the role they want to play.
Aubrey Dickens (11), playing the role of Mad Hatter, shared her thoughts on the audition process, “The audition process was really helpful for me because it helps us get a feel for what a more professional audition feels like while also being fun.”
Maggie Johnson (9), added, “All we had to do was find a monologue of our choosing and read it in character.”
Johnson is playing the role of Tweedledum, Frog Footman, Gardener Seven, and Knave of Hearts. Johnson commented that something she is looking forward to is her costume, as it matches with the costume for Tweedledee, the identical twin of Tweedledum.
A part of being an actor is being able to commit yourself to your role. This is known as “getting into character.” Dickens shared, “To embody the Mad Hatter, I think of the things that make me excited to give me the positive energy that the Mad Hatter has.” She continued, “Once I do that, I take that energy and tweak it a little bit to make it seem like a crazy kinda happy.”
Opening night of the play will take place on November seventh, and will be shown in the upper elementary gym on the stage. Johnson shares that the cast is all excited for opening night so everyone can see how hard they’ve been working. She stated, “Everyone has been having a great time working on this show together, and we are so ready to show you guys!”
