The 2025 JV football season came to a close after their home game loss against rival school Strafford with a score of 26-27, ending with a record of 7-2 according to MSHSAA.
Even with the season ending on a loss, most of the JV team still felt that it was a success. The hard work they put in during their off season and rigorous practice during the season truly showed their resolve and was reflected by their positive record.
Though the season ended with a positive record, the JV team had to endure the varsity’s fate of facing much adversity throughout the year. Center, John Hampton (10), stated, “The team and I have had many challenges like constant injuries and things not going as expected through the season.”
Injuries were not the only challenges the team had to face. Quarterback, Jacob Ahnen (9), added, “One of the biggest challenges that we had was getting our chemistry down. Many players didn’t get much JV time and when we were constantly switching them around. Some plays were hard to manage.”
Despite these problems being present, many players kept a positive outlook on the season. Their attitude and unwavering determination were fueled by the countless favorite memories that were made throughout the season. Hampton expressed, “My favorite part of the season was when we won against Buffalo after we lost the week before…this kept me wanting more.”
In order to get more out of their football careers after the season ended, like many of their peers, both Ahnen and Hampton have set and are working hard toward their individual goals for their future varsity season. As a Center, Hampton’s goals are to get faster snaps and get off the ball faster in order to block better. Hampton noted, “The kids in varsity hit a lot harder and there is more preparation and thoughtfulness in the game. In order for me to get there I need to get faster.”
Ahnen, the JV quarterback, wishes to hone and improve his craft in order to reach his overarching goal of breaking a high school record as a part of the varsity team. Ahnen stated, “By far the varsity has more competition and the plays are more complicated… I have improved pretty well this season, but I need to work harder in order to someday break some records.”
The JV team has had their ups and downs and at the end of each season they always have something to look back and be proud of. This year’s JV players are concentrating on creating themselves a spot on varsity, working hard toward their individual goals to make their team the best it can be, and focusing on their next steps for the future.
