The Fair Grove High School Boys Soccer Team concluded their 2025 season in the second round of districts on November 5th, in a close game against Laquey ending 0-1.
Head coach, Ryan Highstreet, said the team entered districts with confidence after months of preparation. “Our scheduling was set to prepare as we [had] seen each team at least once already this year.” He also noted that the team had continued to improve throughout the season while working on pulling together and celebrating each individual’s wins as a team.
Assistant coach, Christopher Haviland, shared that their ultimate goal was always to play to the best of their abilities. He explained that the team took the time to prepare by watching film and pointing out what their opponents did that caused struggle.
Both coaches highlighted several standout players who played key roles throughout the season. Highstreet praised Ty Hart (9) for his tenacity and relentless style of play, and Tyler Whitehead (10) for his strong work ethic and “motor.”

Haviland emphasized the strength of the team’s defensive lineup, noting goalie and captain Wes Hart (12) for his focus as well as center back Finnegan Harp (11) for his consistency and leadership on the backline. Both coaches also recognized forward Jacob Shurtz (11) as a major offensive force. Haviland explained, “He’s our target man, if we can get the ball at his feet good things happen.”
Wes shared that the team’s preparation and unity were major focuses leading into the post season. “We practiced every day and watched film to study for the next opponent we played.” He continued, “As a team captain and goalkeeper, I am the voice of the team and help direct where the team needs to be since I can see the whole field.”
Grant Fuller (12), another team captain, described different adjustments the team made before the Laquey game. Previously in the year the team lost to Laquey 1-6. During the district game however Fuller noted a change in formation as well as instruction given to him to guard one player closely throughout the game allowing for a close finish of 0-1.
According to Haviland, Fair Grove finished its 2025 season with a record of 13 wins, 10 losses and one tie. Fuller shared, “It was a great season for FG soccer.”
