Every holiday, one question floats around everyone’s mind, “Will the food be good this year?” The food being good is a must when it comes to holidays like Thanksgiving and even Christmas. So I asked some Fair Grove High School students their thoughts about their families’ holiday foods.
First the most obvious question, what’s your favorite food? For everyone this is a very controversial question, because everyone has a different opinion. Adrick Wilson (12) stated “Side dish is for sure green bean casserole.” English teacher Bailey Weaver said that her favorite was gravy and she added that she needed it on every dish.
In my opinion, the best food is mac and cheese. If a gathering doesn’t have that then it brings down the food table. Mac and cheese compliments most foods very well, especially turkey and ham which are usually the main foods. It also goes great when mixed with different meats.
Macklen Johnson (12) said, “Underrated is for sure easy cheese on celery. Good and good for you.” Perfect for an underrated side dish, something most people don’t think about and don’t usually have.
Clearly the most underrated side dish is something people don’t talk about often. It is the corn casserole. My mom and aunt make it every year, and it is hands down the best casserole out there. On top of that most people don’t have it or don’t talk about it. All of the other casseroles don’t compete, especially not green bean casserole.
Lastly, what is a food that is tradition at the holidays? Johnson stated, “I feel like we always have mashed potatoes, it’s like an unwritten rule.” Wilson said that his grandma makes a dressing every year that is very good.
My family’s special food is my mom and aunt’s taco ring. It’s taco meat and beans inside of a croissant. We put cheese and taco sauce on it after it comes out of the oven. It is the best meal my family makes, and more families need it.
Food is one of the most important parts of a family gathering. Of course seeing your family is always great, and I love my family, but we’ve all had a time though where we’ve gone and maybe your favorite cousin isn’t there, then you have to rely on the food.
