The Fair Grove Boys and Girls Basketball team have overcome many challenges this ongoing session, putting in hard work and continuing to compete.
There were many different expectations from both teams going into the season. Grant Fuller (12) stated, “My expectations were to compete in every game we played, win or lose. So far this season we have met my expectations.”
McKenna Zanzie (10) explained that due to multiple injuries, their season has been difficult. Zanzie added that so far she has had a good season, and has tried to step up into the role of a team leader. She stated, “My expectations for myself going into the season were to always have a positive mindset, and to try my hardest. Our team goals however have been very hard to accomplish.”
Logan Wilson (10) described that after losing a lot of seniors on the team there would be many open spots on the roster. He explained, “We needed to come out and play our hardest even though we were undersized.”
Fuller explained that early in the season the team had some things to work on. He shared, “…now that we have more games under our belt our chemistry is way better and we are getting used to the level of basketball and what shots to take at what time.”
Fuller added, “This season we have a whole new team that is young.” He also expressed that the team had lost a coach from last season, which was hard for some of the older players.
Zanzie stated that going into the season there were multiple players with injuries. Zanzie explained that due to multiple injuries this season has been very difficult, “With only having six girls healthy in the beginning of the season conditioning was essential. We now have girls coming off of injury putting our numbers back up to eleven.”
Jacob Shurtz (11) said the team was having a hard time transitioning on defense. To solve this issue, Shurtz explained that the team assigned designated “get back” players.
Wilson stated the team had many ups and downs throughout the season. Wilson shared, “We will continue to grind. All that matters is that we play our best basketball at the end of the season.”
Zanzie said, “I hope the rest of the season we start to win and never give up hope. It has been a struggle to keep our heads held high with the obvious setbacks, but all of us girls keep each other up.”
Fuller stated, “I hope we can keep competing and I hope we can win a district championship in March.”
