The Fair Grove High School JV boys basketball team is making its way through the season. They might not always be in the spotlight but their energy, determination and growth have made this season one to remember.
The JV boys basketball team, coached by Jacob Supancic currently, holds a record of 4-7 this season. Hayden Talbot (10) explained, “I think that the beginning of the season was a bit rough mostly because of the fact that we are a very young team and it was a whole new JV team. But every game we have played we have done better and better each time.”
A leader is someone who guides and supports a group. Grey Pritchett (9) shared his thoughts on who the leaders are on the Fair Grove JV Basketball Team, “The top leaders I would say are Gavin, Dude, and Logan because they are upper class men and they know more about things than I do. And they are just good leaders in general.” Talbot also shared his thoughts on the team leaders and stated “…Dude is our leader because he has experience in basketball and I like him so it’s easy to talk to him over some other people.”
Being a team takes a lot more than just being good athletes, it takes friendship, commitment and striving to be better not only for yourself but your teammates and keeping each other accountable. Logan Wilson (10) stated, “We are a solid group. Gavin, Dude and I have played together for almost five years now and have built a good chemistry and we are lifting up the freshman on the team and just glad to have 5 guys that are on the floor who trust each other.”
The JV boys basketball team started this season with an entirely new starting five, and that didn’t stop them from doing what they needed to do. Through early morning practices and late nights after games, the team continues to show up ready to compete day after day. Pritchett said, “We are all very small. What we are good at is energy. We know we’re small so we know we will have to outwork other teams.”
The next upcoming games will be played at Reeds Springs on February 10th, February 11th at Hollister, and then finally a home game against Forsyth on February 13th.
