The Fair Grove FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter is celebrating major accomplishments this year as Madison Crews (11) steps into the new role as the recently elected Regional President.
Crews earned the position after completing a competitive process that included submitting an application, taking a comprehensive knowledge test, delivering a speech, and responding to situational interview questions in front of regional voting delegates.
To qualify for this position, candidates must score at least an 80 percent on their knowledge test. This year, Crews scored a perfect 100 percent to receive the opportunity to run for office.
FCCLA teacher sponsor Darci Friberg explained Crews’ preparation played a key role in her success. Friberg stated, “She did an amazing job of preparing for this role. I was simply there to guide her.”
FCCLA is a national student organization that is focused on leadership development and career preparation. Fair Grove’s chapter this year currently has 25 members that participate in the club. Students can compete in different events depending on their interests. One of the competitions that they offer is called STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition).
As Regional President, Crews will begin to organize a regional meeting with the newly elected officers. At this meeting, Crews plans to speak about picking a regional theme for the year, discussing bylaws and studying and implementing parliamentary procedures. She will also be responsible for writing and distributing the meeting agenda’s to each member of office that will work beside her to complete the tasks that are required.
This month, Crews will speak at the Missouri State FCCLA Conference. Here, members from across the state will gather to compete and strengthen their leadership skills.
Behind the scenes, Friberg plays an important role in helping students prepare for their competitions. She guides students through the application process, provides resources, helps them prepare for situational questions and assists them to polish their speeches.
Crews credits Friberg’s support and advice as a key factor in her success. She stated, “I cannot say enough about Mrs. Friberg. Her constant support and belief in me is what led me to this amazing opportunity.” She continued, “She is a great advisor and I am thankful to have her support because this new role is a lot of responsibility that she is taking on with me.”
With strong leadership and guidance, Fair Grove’s FCCLA chapter continues to achieve success. As Crews steps into her new role, she is now representing our school’s chapter and the responsibility she has taken over.
