Every year America celebrates our veterans and fallen soldiers. This is celebrated on November 11th. As a reminder of their service, Fair Grove High School puts on a veterans day assembly.

Veterans day may have different meanings to different people. Jeremy Faubion, High School history teacher stated, “Veterans day is important to me because of the sacrifices of the people who served this country to preserve our freedom and keep us from harm.”

Carson Trussell (10) said, “This means a lot to me, not just because veterans give up everything for us but also family connections to veterans. This day is the least we can do for veterans.”

However many emotions may be felt by family and friends who may know someone that is in the military. Faubion explained, “I have several veterans in my family, and I feel honored to share their stories to my students.”

Faubion then goes on to say, “Both my grandfathers served in World War 2 and I feel younger generations need to hear about their sacrifices because many of them are not around to share it anymore.”

With members of Fair Grove High School sharing their point of view on veterans day the high school puts together an assembly. Recognizing all of the families and the veterans themselves.

Christian Overstreet, High School principal, stated, “The main purpose of hosting a Veterans Day assembly is to honor and show appreciation for the service and sacrifices of veterans.”

Overstreet added, “Additionally, hosting the Veterans Day assembly also serves the purpose of expressing gratitude for all of the sacrifices our military servicemen and women have made.”

With hosting the assembly comes the setup. Overstreet stated, “It takes an entire group of dedicated people to make our Veterans Day assembly one of the best around.”

Stephine Dunham (12) stated, “As a part of student council we serve breakfast for the veterans during the assembly, as well as greeting them as they walk in.”

Overstreet said, “I take the responsibility of hosting the Veterans Day assembly very seriously. To me, at its core, Veterans Day is a day dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the service, sacrifices, and contribution of veterans.”
