Fair Grove pulled through on the first Friday night of the season, to gain their first win over Buffalo. The game was definitely one that fans of both schools were looking forward to. The end score of the game was Fair Grove 33 and Buffalo 7.

The classic Fair Grove defense battled hard throughout the whole game. They lost some yards to the Bison, but the biggest struggle was the second quarter.

Cole McGuire,Bison’s key receiver, caught the touchdown from Dallas McGuire. The Eagles kept their heads up and prevented the Bison from scoring during the entire second half. The defense was solid and recovered numerous fumbles to gain the ball back. This opened up the lane for their offense time and time again.

Seven points were scored in the first half of the game by Fair Grove. The Eagles couldn’t quite put any more points up until the second half. Both teams continued to push the ball back and forth on the field, keeping the other team from making it too far toward the endzone.

Brayden Lumley ran the ball in for two of the Eagles’ touchdowns. They both were initially pass plays that he took on his own. He scored one in the first quarter and one in the fourth. These were both important plays to push the Eagle’s further ahead.

Aside from a few slip-ups, the Eagles offense was one to watch. They struggled to hold onto the ball a couple times. Fighting through it, the boys managed to score 33 points during the game. During the second half, their offense commanded the field and scored 26 points with ease.

Wyle Potter scored the first touchdown of the second half to get the Eagles back in the lead. He ran the ball right up the gut for the 6 Eagle points. Jackson Davis had an interception that he took back to the end zone for 6 more Eagle points.

The strategies of Fair Grove’s new head coach, Bill Voorhis, proved to work for the Eagles. The boys played with a completely new style that Friday night.

“We run a spread offense now,” says Kyle Colvard,” It utilizes our athletic players.”

Fair Grove has a lot more battles in store for them this season. They played the Skyline Tigers, Friday, August 29.

Wyle Potter states,” It was a tough game. It truly tested us.”

The game was a loss for the Eagles. The scoreboard clocked out with a final score of Fair Grove: 0 and Skyline: 37.

The team contested for the win against Pleasant Hope on September 5. It was homecoming night for Fair Grove. The Eagles pulled ahead of the Pirates with a score of 26-14. The night was quite an event for the school.

On the night of September 12, the football left the tee into the hands of Springfield Catholic soon after 7 p.m. The Fair Grove Eagles lost to the Fightin’ Irish the year before, but made quite a return with a victory two weeks ago. The Eagles’ defense fought through the cold temperature and held the Irish on their own side of the field for a majority of the first half.

“The game was a good step towards the winning season that we’re looking for,” claims Joe Caudle. Caudle had 2 big interceptions in the first quarter. Rashawn Moore also had two game-changing interceptions of his own, also in the first quarter. Dylan Lucas ran the ball in for two of the Eagles’ touchdowns. Brayden Lumley, quarterback, managed to score two touchdowns himself. Austin Fodge also had a touchdown of his own towards the end of the night. The game ending horn rang with an ending score of Fair Grove: 33 Springfield Catholic: 11

After a 37-16 loss to Stockton, the Eagles next matchups are September 27th against Strafford at home and October 3rd at Marionville.
