Tyler Whitehead is a sophomore at Fair Grove High School and is involved in many sports and clubs that challenge him in a variety of ways.
Whitehead involves himself in different sports including soccer, track, cross country and also does an indoor soccer program during the winter.
Whitehead stated his favorite activity, “My favorite sport to play is soccer because I have been playing it since I was in kindergarten. Cross country is also a very close second, in my opinion there is not a better community within a team than cross country.”
Andrew Farrar (11) is one of Whitehead’s close friends and runs cross country with him. He explained the way that Whitehead inspires him, “ Ty inspires me to become fast as him in cross country and be at his level of running.” Whitehead’s friend Colton Miller (10) stated, “He has a great mindset and a great work ethic.”
Whitehead inspires others, but he also has his own inspirations. “One of my biggest inspirations is faith. Even if times get hard and I don’t feel like I can keep going forward, I know that the lord has a plan for me and that I can trust his timing.”
Jalen Supancic is the cross country coach at Fair Grove High School. As track season is coming up, Supancic will coach Whitehead during that time, “I have had a lot of pleasure coaching him for the past four cross country seasons and I will get to coach him during the upcoming track season as well.”
He added, “He puts a lot of focus on figuring out how to improve himself and continue towards success. He is also a great teammate that pushes others and works with them to keep growing them as well.”
As Supancic has been able to work with Whitehead for the past four years he has great memories with him, as Supancic expressed, “… so far my favorite memory was the memory of talking with him after our district race this past fall. Tyler didn’t have the race that he wanted to have and was pretty disappointed in himself, but one of my favorite parts of coaching Tyler is that he cuts right to the chase of work on himself and how to do better for his teammates and himself.”
Whitehead still has two more years of high school left, and he is continuing to find ways to improve in all of his activities, “One of my biggest goals that I hope I can complete either my junior or senior year is to make an all-star for all three sports I play. I believe I can complete this goal but it is going to take a lot of work to do.”
