Macklen Johnson is a highly involved senior at Fair Grove High School who is heading into his final season of high school baseball.
Macklen is involved in multiple clubs. He is a member of National Honor Society (NHS), Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and is the Vice President of Membership for the Future Business Leaders of America/Distributive Education Clubs of America (FBLA/DECA).
Since the beginning of his high school career, Macklen has been a member of FBLA/DECA. Macklen shared his favorite memory from the club, “My favorite FBLA memory was qualifying for state in my event with Carson Trussell (12) and Adrick Wilson (12) this year. We prepared all that we needed to make it to the next competition.”
Throughout his high school career, Macklen has participated in several sports. He ran cross country his freshman through junior year, played soccer his senior year, and played baseball through all four years of high school.Â
Soccer was a great experience for Macklen. He explained, “I gained a whole new group of friends that I could’ve missed. I also got the opportunity to get closer with a coach I already liked and had experience with before, Coach Highstreet.”
Macklen has been enjoying baseball since he was just two years old. Macklen shared, “My dad has told me several times that he let me hit off a tee when I was two years old, and said I have loved it ever since, which is true.”
Macklen’s dedication and effort to baseball has led him to being signed to college for the sport. Macklen’s mother and Fair Grove Government, Psychology and World History teacher Amy Johnson explained, “The coach from Lincoln University was at the state championship game at the end of the year and watched Macklen play. After that he reached out to Coach Reed and we made a trip up to view the campus and get an offer. The coaching staff is amazing and super supportive.”
Macklen is signed to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri to play for the Lincoln Blue Tigers. Macklen said, “I believe it was the best and most fitting offer I could’ve received.”
Two professional baseball players Macklen has aspired to be are Yadier Molina and Tim Lincecum. He explained, “From my experience of seeing these guys play they don’t seem to let anything affect them, and that is exactly how I want to play.”
The 2025-2026 school year is Macklen’s final year of high school, and he will be attending Lincoln University afterwards. Amy said, “I am going to miss him in the hallways and stopping by my room, but I know he is ready to continue on to the next step. He is a great kid and he will do great.”
